Per Emily’s tweet last night, which read, “*COUGH*cough*hack*wheeze*wince*sniffle*,” we are canceling today’s episode and we’ll return next week.

…is bad for the show. The healthcare reform debate and vote schedule today makes it impossible for Steve to do anything but watch his news feeds and write this afternoon and evening. It’s a situation where his real job is interfering with his radio show fun job. There will be no PSFR today, but this is likely good news in the bigger picture, so turn on CSPAN and watch some really boring, procedural history being made, and we’ll be back next week to talk about it.

I’m pretty excited about this! Join Steve, Emily and me on Sunday from 4 - 6 P.M. eastern time for the live broadcast & stream of Poli-Sci-Fi Radio’s 100th episode. Special guests joining us during Sunday’s broadcast/stream include…
We’ll also be joined by our regular cast and crew, and as always, we’ll discuss the week’s big items in political and genre-related news.
It’s kind of hard to believe we’ve done 100 episodes. That’s 200 hours or political/sci-fi talk! And we don’t get paid! What are we thinking?!
Tune in live on Sunday at 4:00 P.M. eastern and join our live chat here.
For those of you who miss the live stream, the podcast of the episode will be posted on Tuesday evening.
As the kids say, ZOMG!

Someone kissed the frog I had in my throat during last week’s show and it’s turned into a prince of a cold/flu thing. I’m just now on the mend (seriously, this is first day I’ve felt like could do anything other than lay there and moan) and I’ve decided to cancel tomorrow’s show. I’d be canceling it even if it wasn’t show #100, but because it’s kind of a big show for us, I really do want to do a little bit of prep for it and make it special, and I just haven’t been able to do anything. So the extra week will give me a chance to get my ducks in a row. Plus, I have a hair trigger cough that hits whenever I inhale more than a tiny amount of air so the show would be hard to listen to anyway.
So next week will be our 100th episode of PSFR. We’re trying to line up some special guests and I’m told there will be cake (the cake is a lie). If anyone has any suggestions for what we might do, chime in. We’ll still be discussing a few political stories and LOST (of course), but we’ll make some time for some guests and some looking back at the last 100 episodes. Thoughts?

…Steve is asking that we cancel today. He’s not feeling well *and* he’s fighting a work-related deadline. He writes, “There’s obviously a ton of content to talk about — all of it awful and demoralizing….” I don’t know what he means. The Walking Dead pilot was picked up by AMC this week. That’s great news!
Anyway, we’ll be back next week to try and cheer everyone up. Until then, here are some links to items we probably would have discussed today…
You can pretty much glance at any post at Steve’s blog from the past several days (since Scott Brown’s disappointing victory in MA) and find within any of the compelling reasons why the House should, in Steve’s words, “Pass. The. Damn. (healthcare) Bill.”
The SCOTUS Citizens United decision was huge and unambiguously bad for democracy. It’s a stickier wicket than your standard right-left 5-4 SCOTUS decision though, and I was looking forward to bouncing this off Steve for some analysis. But even in light of my own free speech-imbued grey-scale take on the ideology at work in the decision, I don’t think there’s any question that practically speaking, given the nature of our current electoral system, this is really, really bad. I thought Lessig’s response was compelling, natch.
No Dollhouse this week. The series finale is on Friday.
Emily and I will likely be seeing Legion tonight. It’s rocking a full 23% at Rotten Tomatoes, so it should be a good time.
Eve has compiled the following list of other genre topics as well…
See you next week!

Our first episode of 2010 has been canceled due to weather. Burlington is expecting gusty snowy weather with an accumulation of 3-5 inches and gusts up to 30 mph. Not biblical weather, but no fun to drive in, particularly if you’re coming from Essex Junction, like Steve. Plus Emily is sick with flu-like symptoms so she probably would have skipped the show anyway, and frankly, there’s not a ton of material to discuss in either politics of SF.
I’d like to encourage folks to use the comments section of this post to say hi, ask questions, rant about something — whatever floats your respective boats.

The film festival and other mid autumn things have conspired to keep us off the air this week, but we’ll return on Sunday 11/8 with a new show that’s doubly awesome! Stay tuned…

The live stream is down at The Radiator today and the powers that be can’t seem to fix it right away. That combined with a busy schedule for Emily and me and a paltry selection of compelling SF-related topics has led to our decision to put the show off a week. We’ll be back next week with a new show whether the live stream is back or not.
In the meantime I think I can say with some confidence that this week’s winner of Stupid People Saying Stupid Things would have been Glenn Beck.
Also, I plan on panning the film Doomsday next week (I caught it on cable the other night). It’s such an amazing turd that I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes a cult classic, ala Showgirls. Check it out for the jaw-dropping awfulness of it. It’s not sure if it wants to be Escape From New York, The Road Warrior or The Postman and falls way short of all of those films.
Thanks to those lurkers who sent me email this week. It’s nice to know you’re out there. See you next week.
RIP, Ted Kennedy.

…sports? Yes, Emily and I are canceling this week’s show so we can watch the US face off against Brazil in the Confederations Cup final in South Africa on Sunday afternoon. We’d TiVo the game but match results keep getting spoiled for us so we’re going to watch it live. We’ll be back next week with an all new PSFR. See you then!

We did record episode 67 on Sunday 5/10, but I’ve been off from work this week and my “staycation” has been so busy I haven’t found the time to upload it (also, being at work gives me access to machines that speed up the process). I’m going to try and get it up BEFORE the new show on Sunday.
I know it sucks to hear PSFR any more than a few days after it’s recorded because much of what we discuss is topical, but you’ll really want to hear this one because we talk all about the new Trek film. So stay tuned!
