Bonus clip!

And as an added bonus with this episode, we are including an exclusive bit of pre-show banter that the recorder happened to pick up before this week’s episode began.  This is the sort of thing you podcast-listeners miss out on by not tuning into the live broadcast.  You also miss the high-larious inside jokes in the live IRC chat.  This particular snippet of banter immediately precedes the start of the show, so if you want to be a total nerd, you should listen to this short clip first.  Here it is.

Episode 38: It’s the Economy, Stupid

billsimmon 23 Sep 2008 | : episodes

The McCain camp is having a bad week.  They’re sinking in the polls and can’t get a clear message about the crisis on Wall Street together.  McCain also may or may not know where Spain is and Governor Palin doesn’t seem to be clear on who’s at the top of the the GOP ticket — in fact, the words “presumptuous” and “celebrity” come to mind.

The PSFR crew also discuss HBO’s True Blood, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, new wave monster movies and Watchmen.  Enjoy…

Episode 37: Pants on Fire

billsimmon 18 Sep 2008 | : episodes

Is the John-McCain-is-a-liar narrative beginning to take root?  It certainly seems like the McCain campaign is doing everything it can to make it stick.  This and the glaring incompetence of Sarah Palin dominate the political discussion in this week’s episode of PSFR.  Steve, Bill and Emily also look at the fall line-up of genre TV, discuss Neil Stephenson’s new book, Anathem, and Bill mourns the loss of David Foster Wallace.  Oh yeah, and the Large Hadron Collider (apparently) did not destroy the Earth.  FTW!

Episode 36: The Cake is a Lie.

billsimmon 10 Sep 2008 | : episodes

Emily and Bill are back from their Labor Day vacation and they picked a big week to take off.  Steve catches everybody up on all the big political shenanigans and breaks the news of his appearance on the first-ever episode of the brand new Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC!

Steve had to remind himself that he really couldn’t do two full hours just on Sarah Palin, so he reigned in that desire and broke up the politics with some goos SF material, including the return of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a discussion about the influence of SF/F films on the summer blockbuster numbers and the most excellent video game, Portal.

Joining Steve and Bill on the phone this week was special guest Gerry Canavan, who offered his take on the Palin choice for GOP VP as well as some well-reasoned thoughts on the Terminator timeline.
